The Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy

The Ashden Awards for Sustainable Energy aim to promote the widespread use of local, sustainable energy, because of the environmental, social and economic benefits which it can provide. The Awards reward achievement and provide funding for future developments.

The UK Awards are open to schemes anywhere in the UK which generate renewable energy, or reduce energy demand, at a local level and scale.

For the 2010 Awards, there are three separate categories:

  • Energy Business Award. For the company that has made renewable energy and energy efficiency products and services more accesible.
  • Local Authority Award. For councils that have undertaken effective initiatives and programmes to improve energy efficiency, increased the supply of local renewable energy, and also promoted the wider use of sustainable energy.
  • Charity Award. Open to not-for-profit organisations and charities that have carried out local projects to increase energy efficiency and cut energy consumption.

The key criteria for a scheme to win an Ashden UK Award are: * It has been delivering sustainable energy at a local level for at least one year. * It is delivering demonstrable benefits to the environment. * It is delivering social and economic benefits. * It is inspirational and replicable. * It shows an innovative approach to sustainable energy. * There are clear plans to use the Ashden Award prize money for expansion, replication and dissemination of the Award-winning work.
