Following on from the news that we now have accreditation from the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) for the installation of heat pumps, we thought we’d take the opportunity to talk about some of the benefits.

Installing a heat pump allows you to heat your home free from ever rising solid fuel, oil or gas which means significant savings on your energy bills. Ground, Air and Water Source heat pumps are fast becoming the preferred choice of heating over oil or LPG systems due to their significant savings, both financially and environmentally, as well as new building regulations and government initiatives, including the availability of grants for these technologies.

More efficient than conventional boilers

Industry-standard tests show that Heat Pumps have an average COP (Co-efficient of Performance) of between 3 and 4.6, which means that for every kW of electricity used to power the Heat Pump, it will give out 3 - 4.6kW of heat, giving the heat pump an efficiency rating of 300-460% (compared to an average of 70% efficiency with a conventional boiler). Additionally, using a heat pump as part of an integrated system, utilising underfloor heating, a thermal store and/or solar panel, it is possible for the heat pump to run at a negligible cost.
